Choosing the Thread Size and Spindle Length
The threaded spindle connects the heavy-duty machine foot to the machine frame and provides the required height adjustment. Compact sizes such as M6, M8, M10 and M12 are available for smaller connection points, while M20, M24, M30, M36 and M42 are commonly considered for larger and more heavily loaded machine structures.
Thread diameter alone does not determine the permissible load. The footplate design, spindle material, exposed spindle length, installation angle and distribution of the machine weight must also be considered. Long spindles provide a larger adjustment range, but excessive extension can increase the mechanical leverage acting on the connection.
Steel, Stainless Steel or AISI 316 Machine Feet?
Steel heavy-duty levelling feet provide a robust and economical solution for many dry industrial environments. They are commonly used beneath production machinery, machine tools, conveyor systems and general plant equipment.
Stainless steel levelling feet are suitable where moisture, frequent cleaning or increased corrosion resistance must be considered. AISI 316 stainless steel versions provide an additional option for more demanding environments. The actual suitability should always be assessed according to the substances, temperatures and cleaning processes present in the application. Base Plate Diameter and Load Distribution
The base plate transfers the machine weight to the floor. A larger footplate distributes the load over a wider area, which can be useful for heavy machinery or floors that should not be exposed to high local pressure. Smaller base plates require less installation space and may be suitable for compact frames and closely positioned machine components.
MOVET heavy-duty adjustable feet are available with base plate diameters from 21 to 230 mm. The required diameter cannot be determined from the total machine weight alone. The number of support points, actual load distribution, floor construction and possible dynamic forces must also be included in the selection.
Articulated Machine Feet for Uneven Floors
Heavy-duty articulated feet allow the spindle and base plate to move relative to one another. Depending on the design, adjustment angles between 3° and 30° are available. This enables the footplate to rest more evenly on floors that are slightly inclined or uneven.
The joint is intended to compensate for the installation angle and should not be treated as a freely movable connection during operation. The selected foot must remain within its permitted articulation range, and the machine load should act as centrally as possible through the spindle. Anti-Slip Pads, Vibration Damping and Floor Fixing
A black NBR pad can increase friction between the machine foot and the floor and help reduce unwanted movement on smooth surfaces. Depending on the product design, an elastomer base may also reduce the transmission of limited structure-borne noise and vibration.
An anti-slip pad should not automatically be regarded as a purpose-designed vibration damper. Where vibration isolation is a primary requirement, the excitation frequency, machine mass and dynamic forces must be evaluated separately. For machines that could move, tip or lift during operation, heavy-duty machine feet with mounting holes can be fixed to the floor. The anchors, floor structure and fixing points must be designed for the expected forces.
