Tapered Handles with Male or Female Threads
The correct connection type depends on how the handle is to be attached to the adjoining machine component. A tapered handle with a male thread has an integrated threaded stud and is screwed directly into a suitable M8 threaded hole.
On a tapered handle with a female thread, the thread is located inside the handle body. This version is screwed onto an existing M8 threaded stud or compatible spindle. The internal connection creates a compact installation without a threaded stud protruding from the handle.
Both connecting components must have the same thread diameter and pitch. The available thread length, required engagement depth and operating forces must also be considered. The screw or stud should not reach the closed end of the handle before the intended mounting position has been achieved.
Polished or Sandblasted Stainless Steel Handles?
The surface finish affects the appearance and texture of the stainless steel handle. MOVET offers tapered handles with polished and sandblasted surfaces.

The surface finish does not change the basic connection method. The current male-threaded handle is available with either a polished or sandblasted surface, while the female-threaded version is offered with a polished finish.
Tapered Grip Shape with Ø 20 and Ø 14 mm Diameters
The current stainless steel handles taper from an outside diameter of 20 mm to 14 mm. This creates a clearly defined gripping area for controlled manual operation of levers, adjustment mechanisms and clamping devices.
The male-threaded versions have an overall length of 105 mm, while the female-threaded handle is 95 mm long. In addition to grip dimensions, sufficient hand clearance around covers, panels and neighbouring machine components must be considered.
The appropriate handle position depends on the operating direction, frequency of use and installation orientation. For regularly repeated movements, the handle should remain accessible without the operator's hand or arm coming into contact with surrounding components.
Fixed Tapered Handles for Control and Clamping Mechanisms
MOVET tapered handles are fixed operating handles. They do not have a freely rotating grip sleeve but form a rigid connection with the lever or machine component after installation. This makes them suitable for operating movements requiring direct force transmission.
Typical applications include machine controls, adjustment levers, clamping mechanisms, fixtures and manually operated positioning devices. Suitability depends on the mounting arrangement, operating forces, movement and frequency of use.
A fixed tapered handle should not be confused with a revolving crank handle. A rotating grip may be more suitable for handwheels or cranks that complete frequent or continuous revolutions. Fixed tapered handles provide a compact gripping point for shorter adjustment, pulling or swivelling movements.
Installing and Cleaning Stainless Steel Tapered Handles
Before installation, the male and female threads should be clean, undamaged and free from foreign material. The handle must be aligned correctly and screwed in to a sufficient depth. Cross-threaded installation can damage both the handle and the adjoining component.
Whether an additional thread-locking method is required depends on vibration, operating loads and the machine design. The selected method must be compatible with AISI 304 stainless steel, the M8 thread and the surrounding operating conditions. Excessive tightening torque may damage the thread or mating component.
During cleaning and maintenance, inspect the handle surface, thread transition and mounting point. Cleaning agents must be compatible with AISI 304 stainless steel and all adjoining materials. Loose, damaged or permanently deformed handles should be replaced before the machine is operated again.
Comparing Tapered Handles, Star Knobs and U-Handles
The correct operating element depends on the intended movement and required force transmission. Tapered handles provide an elongated gripping point for lever and adjustment movements. For tool-free clamping and fixing through a central rotary movement, stainless steel star knobs are often more suitable.
