Accumulation Chains for Flexible Material Flow
Accumulation chains, also known as free flow chains, are used in conveyor systems when workpieces, workpiece carriers or other conveyed goods need to be transported and accumulated as required without interrupting the entire conveying process. Freely rotating conveyor rollers allow the conveyed goods to be stopped in a controlled manner while the chain continues to run.
This makes accumulation chains particularly suitable for buffer sections, assembly processes and automated production lines. Depending on the application, different chain configurations and roller versions are available to suit the required load, conveying speed and operating conditions.

How Do Accumulation Chains Work?
Accumulation chains – also known as free flow chains – enable workpieces or workpiece carriers to be conveyed and selectively accumulated within a conveyor system. The conveyed goods rest on freely rotating conveyor rollers.
When the conveyed goods are stopped at a station, the rollers can continue to rotate while the chain keeps running. This allows products or workpiece carriers to be buffered as required without interrupting the entire conveying process.
This principle is particularly suitable for assembly, processing and production lines where workpieces move through individual stations in sequence or need to be temporarily accumulated.
