Hygienic handles provide accessible operating points for doors, covers, guards and adjustable machine components in production areas that are cleaned regularly. Hygienic Pull Handle or Star Knob?

The appropriate handle design depends on the required operating function. A hygienic pull handle provides a fixed gripping point for opening, closing or positioning a machine component. A hygienic star knob is rotated manually to tighten, release or adjust a threaded connection.

The two product types are not interchangeable. A pull handle is primarily used to grip and move a component, whereas a star knob transfers manual torque to a threaded connection.

Select Hygienic Handles by Size and Thread

Before ordering, compare all dimensions with the technical drawing. For a pull handle, the hole spacing and handle clearance are particularly important. For a star knob, the thread size, internal thread depth, outer diameter and available turning space must match the application.

3-A-Certified Hygienic Handles

The hygienic pull handles and star knobs in this category are specified according to the 3-A Sanitary Standard. These certified operating elements are intended for machine areas where accessible surfaces and cleanable transitions are required.

Certification of an individual stainless steel handle does not automatically certify the complete machine installation. The mounting surface, screws, threaded studs, seals and adjacent components must also be suitable for the intended cleaning process.

Product-specific certificates and technical documentation should always be checked for the exact pull handle or star knob selected.

High-Gloss Polished AISI 304 Stainless Steel Handles

MOVET hygienic handles are manufactured from AISI 304 stainless steel and feature a high-gloss polished surface. The smooth external contours support regular cleaning and reduce strongly textured areas on the operating element.

AISI 304 stainless steel is suitable for many industrial and hygiene-sensitive environments. Actual resistance depends on the cleaning agent, chemical concentration, temperature, exposure time and possible chloride content.

The polished surfaces should be inspected regularly for scratches, damage and deposits. The transitions between the handle, silicone seal and machine surface must also remain accessible during cleaning.

Blue Silicone Seals at the Mounting Points

Blue silicone seals close the transition between the hygienic handle and the adjacent machine component. On the pull handles, sealing elements are positioned at the two mounting points. On the star knobs, the silicone element seals the area around the threaded connection.

The blue colour provides clear visual contrast in many food-processing environments. A missing, damaged or incorrectly positioned seal can therefore be easier to identify during inspection.

For correct sealing, the mating surface must be clean, level and free from damage. The silicone seal must not be twisted, trapped or compressed incorrectly during installation. Its suitability should also be checked against the actual operating temperature and cleaning chemicals.

Installing and Using Hygienic Pull Handles and Star Knobs

A hygienic pull handle is mounted through two defined fastening points. The hole spacing, screw size, panel thickness and strength of the mounting surface must correspond to the selected handle. Suitable hygienic fasteners can be found under hygienic screws .

Hygienic star knobs are screwed onto a compatible threaded stud. Thread diameter, pitch and usable engagement length must correspond. The knob should also have sufficient clearance to be rotated without contacting surrounding machine components.

Pull handles are intended for opening and positioning suitable machine components. They should not be used as lifting points, anchorage points or personal safety equipment unless the selected product has been specifically designed and approved for that purpose.
