Selecting Hygienic Bearings by Housing Design
The housing design must match the mounting position, available installation space and bolt pattern of the machine. 2-bolt flange bearings are suitable for compact mounting surfaces, while 3-bolt flange bearings use a triangular mounting pattern. 4-bolt flange bearings are fixed through four mounting points.
Pillow block bearings are designed for mounting on horizontal machine surfaces. Take-up bearing units are used where the bearing position must remain adjustable within a guide, for example when tensioning shafts or conveyor components.

Blue Waterproof Bearings for Intensive Washdown
MOVET Blue Waterproof bearing units are designed for machine areas with increased sealing requirements. The waterproof bearing solutions combine a hygienically designed housing with additional protection around the bearing and shaft. Selected models are available with an IP69K protection rating.
The sealing performance depends on the complete combination of bearing housing, bearing insert, protective cap, shaft seal and correct installation. Suitability for high-pressure cleaning, elevated cleaning temperatures and specific cleaning agents must therefore be checked using the technical data of the selected bearing unit.
Check Shaft Diameter, Bolt Spacing and Bearing Insert
Hygienic bearing units are available for shaft diameters from 12 to 60 mm. The shaft diameter alone is not sufficient to determine the correct bearing unit. Bolt spacing, housing height, shaft centre position and available mounting area must also correspond to the machine design.
Depending on the product, different stainless steel or plastic bearing inserts are available. Load capacity, permitted speed, sealing performance and resistance to operating media are determined by the complete combination of housing, bearing insert and operating conditions. The product-specific technical data should therefore always be checked before selection.
Protective Caps and Shaft Seals for Hygienic Bearings
Protective caps cover exposed bearing and shaft areas. Closed caps are suitable for housing sides without a through-shaft, while open versions protect the bearing area around a continuous shaft.
Shaft seals can provide additional protection against moisture and contamination at the transition between the stationary bearing housing and rotating shaft.
