Here is the exciting chronicle of Movet components:
Bye, Bye meetings
"Schüßler, the next appointment is the day after tomorrow. Can you be there?" It was only at this moment that Hans Schüßler was back in the here and now. In meeting room C, the one with the thick blue curtains and the musty odour. As so often, he had asked himself what he was supposed to be doing here. The last time he had time for a customer had been days ago. The hours in the company were eaten up by office work and meetings.
"Schüßler had worked in the Group for six years. He spent less and less time on his real passion: advising customers and selling them conveyor belts. As a result, he found it more and more difficult to be motivated to go to work every day.
The last conversation
"It all started in December 1994, when a new managing director invited everyone to an interview. It was the same procedure as almost every year. After about 9 months, some manager for Europe was replaced. Then it was back to square one. With ideas that were anything but new, with ideas that nobody could fulfil. Schüßler also had his interview shortly before Christmas. He listened to everything, stood up, turned to the door and knew what to do.
The plan
"He had to get off the hamster wheel and take matters into his own hands. He already had a strong partner in mind. A small company from Scandinavia. Not only did they produce plastic straps, but more importantly, they had the right attitude. These people looked after their customers. They focussed on their orders and made a down-to-earth, uncomplicated impression.
No money in the bank
"The decision had been made for him. He had already written his notice. Now his wife just had to say yes. But this yes was associated with many concerns. The house and car belonged to the bank. As the sole breadwinner, Hans Schüßler provided for the family. Mrs Schüßler looked after the two children. The third child was on the way. Mrs Schüßler remembers "I was scared. He brought the money home. And now he wanted to take this risk. But what was I supposed to do? Continue to watch my husband become more and more unhappy? No. We had to take a chance." Schüßler said goodbye to the company and became self-employed. He had one year, during which time they would receive a start-up grant from the state. Then the business had to pay off.
The early days
In the beginning, Hans Schüßler saw more slammed doors than faces. Back in the car, he drummed on the steering wheel. Cursed briefly, gritted his teeth and continued his journey. "After what felt like the 100th conversation, I really didn't know what to do. But there was no turning back," says Hans Schüßler today. His job security was gone.
No time for food
He then put on his smile again for the next potential candidate. Overnight stays in the car were frequent. There were no more hotels to be found late in the evening. During the day, it was back to field work. Food? They were easily forgotten. His wife couldn't stand to see that. She placed homemade sandwiches in the car. Small notes would say ‘Eat me at 10 o'clock’ or "Hungry? Yes, you are!".
The ball started rolling
After just under a year, shortly before the start-up grant expired, things took a turn for the better. More and more orders are placed, interested parties become customers and customers become regulars. The solutions presented are convincing and catch on. More and more products are added to the range and the team grows to cope with the increasing number of orders. The need for space increases and the small warehouse is soon bursting at the seams.
Steady growth
In 2014, the company finally relocated to the Röhm site in Schorndorf. Conveniently located, Movet finally develops into a player among suppliers of conveyor technology components in the modern premises with adjoining warehouse. The focus is on uncompromising product quality and first-class customer service. The product range is perfectly tailored to customer requirements and is constantly being expanded with useful in-house developments - from watertight flange bearings to special seals - and high-quality components.
The baton is passed on
Movet now supplies almost 5,000 customers and has over 15,000 products in its range. In 2022, Mr Schüßler hands over the management of the company to long-time employee Dirk Kramer. The tried and tested will continue to be handled in the same way as it has been for decades. Mr Schüßler supports the team to this day as a partner and source of ideas.
